DIGITAL COMMUNICATION AND TRANSFORMATION

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION AND TRANSFORMATION

Digital transformation; has emerged as a result of the changing needs with the opportunities offered by the developing information and digital communication technologies. Organizations that want to meet these needs effectively have implemented a holistic approach in their business processes. This process is inevitable.

Digitalization is, now, vital. All along the World and especially Europe, the irreversible effects of the change in digital infrastructure re-shaped the essentials of communication, in different respects.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has put digital communication technologies bring to the fore and highlighted the need for action. Due to the need for social distancing, the development of digital services accelerated in this period in an unprecedented way. A large proportion of people across Europe have started to work remotely. E-commerce sites and delivery applications took flight, millions of students continued their education at home, and new digital services were developed to help people better get through this period of social distancing.

The digital solutions worked on in this process also had a critical role in general public health. In this period, high-performance computing, innovative data-sharing approaches, and artificial intelligence solutions were used for research and treatment methods.

The digital transformation process brings with it high-impact technologies that will change the economic and social structure of the European region. While many of these high-impact technologies consist of advanced data processing and applications, others are introducing new business models that are valued through digital applications. The digital transformation process that comes with these technologies affects all aspects of the European economy and society. This transformation will change and improve the way we do business. This process will also contribute to solving some of Europe's most pressing issues, such as managing epidemics, improving medical diagnoses, reducing traffic and workplace accidents, and ensuring energy efficiency.

What will the digital revolution be like?

Enabling technologies and infrastructure such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, quantum & high-performance computing, IoT (incl. edge computing), NextGen internet & infrastructure (5G), cloud computing, digital platforms, distributed ledger technology, and high impact applied technologies such as advanced robotics, autonomous mobility (CAVs), smart cities, additive manufacturing, virtual & augmented reality, digital energy innovation & sustainability, digitally-enabled biotechnologies,  advanced materials will drive the digital revolution that will impact the European economy and society.

Business life with digital communication

Digital communication tools and technologies are integrated into our lives. The adoption of technology has changed the business culture. Companies that put technology at the center of their way of doing business due to the force of the conditions, caused a change in business culture.

Most of the businesses in the European region had to change their working models to comply with the restrictions imposed by the states due to the pandemic. Companies that had to adopt flexible and remote working models also showed more interest in digital communication tools. For employees to work comfortably from home, businesses had to make some investments. While these investments became an important part of the digital transformation process, they also strengthened the foundations of digital communication.

Flexible and remote working models have reduced costs to a certain level and increased productivity on behalf of employers. For employees, these working models made it difficult to establish a work-life balance and made the line between these two factors more permeable. According to the data of a study conducted by the European Union, 40% of the workers working in the region started teleworking due to the pandemic. After the pandemic period is over, certain occupational groups will return to the past and start working in place. Some professional groups have already returned to their offices. However, it seems that most occupational groups will adopt the hybrid working model after the pandemic.

Remote talent management will be a key

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of those working in Europe have switched to the remote working model. It looks like this working model will continue in the future. When it comes to such a working life, managing and nurturing talents has become very important. Managing existing and potential talents remotely have become a key point for institutions and organizations that have fully embraced the digital transformation culture. With the increase in flexibility for the business world, it has become important to retain employees who can manage this flexibility remotely.

 Focus on 5G Infrastructure

The focus on building services that connect different industries has also led to the provision of 5G services for consumers. Towards the end of 2020, the European Union decided to use one-fifth of its 750 billion euro recovery fund to develop digital capabilities. With this decision, telecommunications companies plan to use the allocated resources to expand their 5G services, which provide internet up to 20 times faster than their existing infrastructures.

The increase in the number of people working from home with the pandemic period and the increase in computing devices connected to homes also increase the demand for high bandwidth. It is expected that the 5G infrastructure works, which are realized in line with the allocated resources and the demand, will continue to the same extent in 2022.

Focusing cybersecurity

With the digital transformation and digital communication process, businesses moved to the virtual world. However, businesses have been subjected to numerous cyberattacks. With the cyberattacks, the importance given to cyber security by institutions has increased significantly and will continue to increase. According to an enterprise survey presented at ISG Index 2020 Q3, a severe talent gap was expected in network security, fraud prevention, payment security, and web security in 2021. Therefore, hiring people with the necessary security skills and training businesses against potential cyber-attacks is considered an important part of the digital transformation process.

Internet usage in Europe

Internet use is an important part of the digital transformation and digital communication process in Europe. Germany has the highest internet usage among European Union countries. Internet users more than 95% of the country's population. Combining the use of the Internet with the technologies mentioned above, Germany is one of the pioneers of the digital transformation process in Europe.

The rate of households with internet access in European Union countries has exceeded 91%. Mobile internet usage also continues to increase. It is estimated that the use of mobile internet, which has achieved a significant growth rate from year to year, will spread to 83% of the population in 2025.

With the internet being cheaper, faster, and more accessible, the European e-commerce market is also growing rapidly. It is predicted that the number of internet users in the European region will reach 715 million by 2025. More than 49% of total internet traffic in Europe takes place via mobile devices. All these data prove that the internet will be used more frequently on mobile devices and platforms in the future.

Europe, which adapts very quickly to this trend, will be one of the strongholds of the digital transformation process. Every brand wants to be involved in this transformation process. However, processing the data most accurately and developing creative solutions is possible with the advice of professionals who know this region. We know what digital means and we know this region too. We are ddip.
